Monthly Meditations
I was watching part of a two hour special of the show the biggest loser. Those that follow this show will understand that the biggest loser is actually the winner of the show. The object is for over weight contestants to compete against one another and to be the one who loses the most percentage of weight. So actually the biggest loser of weight become the biggest winner. Great choice of title for a show. These people lives have been changed drastically, but more important than a physically change, is the change of our heart.
As I thought about this show and what God would desire for our lives, I turned to this passage in Hebrews 12:1
Hebrews 12:1 Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset [us], and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,(KJV)
This text speaks about the weight of sin, what a fitting verse for this time of year. What sins are weighing you down. Instead of just focusing on shedding some weight physically, what about your spiritual well being. Hebrews tells us to run the race set out for us. The race is set our for us in the Word of God. Consider for a moment someone competing in the Olympic games. It is the 100 meter dash. They are there represent Canada. They get to the starting line. All the other runners are wearing shorts, running shoes and t-shirts. But the one representing Canada, is where a a snowsuit, with boots, hat and mitts. What are there chances in winning wearing all that extra clothing. Not very good, it would be foolish to run such a race being weighed down with this extra clothing. Just as foolish as it would be for us to run a race that God has sent out for us while carrying the weight of sin with us. We are called to put it off. We remove that weight of sin by confession to God we have sinned. We have not run the race the way it was marked out for us. We need to ask God to forgive us. Lets run the Race!!!
